Choosing the right figure skating blade doesn't have to be a daunting task.  There are several great brands of figure skating blades to choose from.  MK figure skating blades and John Wilson figure skating blades have been the choice for decades.  The MK Double Star ice skating blades, MK Galaxy ice skating blades, Wilson Majestic ice skating blades and Wilson Arrow ice skating blades are all beginner blades that are typically attached to several types of beginner figure skates.  These are better than nickel plated figure skating blades on cheap skates.  Intermediate figure skaters will typically choose the Wilson Coronation Ace Figure Skating Blades, MK Professional figure skating blades, Wilson Coronation Comet figure skating blades or MK Vision figure skating blades.  These blades are made from a better grade of steel and have larger toe picks to help learning more complicated spins and jumps.  The Wilson Gold Seal figure skating blades, Wilson Pattern 99 figure skating blades, the MK Gold Star Figure Skating Blades and the MK Phantom figure skating blades are for elite skaters who need high quality steel and welds that will take the pounding of double and triple jumps.  Recently the trend has been to go toward lightweight figure skating blades.  The Coronation Ace Revolution, the Gold Seal Revolution, the MK Phantom Revolution and the Pattern 99 Revolution figure skating blades are the lightweight versions of the Coronation Ace, the Gold Seal, the MK Phantom and the Pattern 99.  They are made of carbon fiber chassis and carbon steel runner.

Jackson has the Ultima figure skating blades. The Ultima Mark IV and the Ultima Mirage are the typical beginner blades attached to the Jackson beginner figure skates.  The more advanced skaters will choose the Ultima Legacy figure skating blade.  The Ultima Matrix Legacy is the lightweight version of the Ultima Legacy.  The Ultima Freestyle figure skating blades, the Ultima Elite Figure Skating Blades and the Ultima Supreme figure skating blades are for elite skaters doing double and triple jumps.  For those who want the lightweight version of those blades, the Ultima Matrix Freestyle figure skating blades, the Ultima Matrix Elite figure skating blades, and the Ultima Matrix Supreme figure skating blades are the best choice.  The new Ultima Apex Freestyle figure skating blades, the Ultima Apex Elite skating blades, and the Ultima Apex Supreme skating blades are made with a titanium coating and tapered edges to maximize the use of the blades and get better edges.

The Eclipse figure skating blades are made by Riedell.  The Eclipse Astra and Eclipse Cosmos blade are attached to the beginner ice skates.  The Eclipse Aurora is similar to the Coronation Ace, but made of stainless steel to hold edges longer.  The Eclipse Quantum is the lightweight version of the Aurora.  It has a stainless steel runner and an aluminum chassis.  The Eclipse Pinnacle figure skating blades and the Eclipse Infinity figure skating blades are for advanced skaters.  The Eclipse Pinnacle Titanium and the Eclipse Infinity Titanium figure skating blades are the lightweight versions and are made of titanium chassis and a stainless steel runner.

The Paramount figure skating blades are made with three different kinds of steel runners.  The 440SS stainless steel is the strongest and will last longer.  The 420SS stainless steel will hold edges longer, but isn't as expensive as the 440SS.  The lower level Paramoung CA figure skating blades, CP skating blades and C9 blades have a carbon steel runner.  All of the Paramount blades are made with a high quality aircraft aluminum chassis which makes them super light.

Below are our recommend charts for figure skating blades based upon an individual's skill level. We refer to the test levels of the United Skate Figure Skating Association (USFSA) and the Ice Skating Institiute (ISI).  Recommendations follow the advice provided from our manufacturers and on observations and experiences of the customers who have bought the figure skating blades.

When measuring figure skating blades to fit figure skating boots, the blade will typically be 1/4" shorter than the boot sole length.  So, for instance if the sole length of your boot measures 10.5" long, then you would want to purchase a figure skating blade that will be 10.25" long.

To learn more about figure skating blades visit our Figure Skate Blade Basics page.  We provide information on radius, blade style, rocker, how blades are made and how they are able to help skaters achieve specific goals.
